THE ORIGINS OF SILVERMIST DIAMONDS

Like all natural diamonds, Silvermist Diamonds are among the rarest and most unique gems on Earth.

The creation of Silvermist Diamonds is a story that spans billions of years. These diamonds were formed deep beneath the surface of the Earth, where carbon molecules were crystallized under unimaginable heat and pressure. It was during this remarkable process that Silvermist Diamonds were born – a natural treasure … a remarkable journey.

Silvermist Diamonds are primarily unearthed from Rio Tinto’s Argyle Diamond Mine in the spectacular and rugged East Kimberley region of Western Australia, famous also for its champagne diamonds and its very rare and highly coveted pink diamonds.

AN ENDURING LEGACY

The Argyle Diamond Mine is one of the the world’s largest supplier of natural diamonds. Here in the late 1970s, geologists discovered diamond-bearing ore in the Kimberley Plateau, a landscape of stark, stunning elemental beauty – the birthplace of natural color diamonds. The mine began operation in 1983 and is likely to continue until at least 2018.

The Argyle Diamond Mine is located in the heart of the Kimberley region of Western Australia, a land steeped in Aboriginal mythology and rugged mountain ranges, deep gorges and dry savannah. It is also an area of significant disadvantage, socially and economically. The wealth generated from the diamond revenue from the Argyle mine is being used to fund community development projects for the land’s Traditional Owners and local communities. The many health, education, training, employment and business options it generates are giving them the capacity to chart their own destiny, beyond the life of the mine.
